Cases and deaths

Data for cases and deaths is from the Johns Hopkins University. More specifically the time series csv-files. An automated system copies the data from the linked github repository once per day.

โš ๏ธ Considerations

General considerations
  • ๐ŸŒก๏ธ cases only contain COVID-19 infections which have been confirmed with a test.
  • Current case numbers do not reflect the current situation but the situation roughly 7-14 days ago (due to incubation time and testing delays).
  • Lockdowns and other measures to slow down infection rates can only be visible in case numbers after 7-14 days because of the delays mentioned above.
  • It is very likely that there are many unknown and unconfirmed cases for various reasons (limited testing capacities, no/mild symptoms, ...).
  • It is likely that the amount of unknown cases is higher in countries with bad healthcare and more limited testing capacities.
  • Unproportional numbers of ๐Ÿ’€ deaths (compared to cases) can have many different reasons. E.g.: High/low numbers of tests or overloaded hospitals.
  • Some countries or regions may report no or inaccurate data.
  • Negative growth in cases/deaths may occur in some cases. E.g. due to wrong reports or changed methodology/criteria.
Considerations concerning features on CoronaCurve.de
  • Comparing countries or regions can be misleading because of highly different testing behavior/capacities, different epidemic phases, differences in healthcare etc.
  • The ๐Ÿ”ฎ Projection feature (๐Ÿ› ๏ธ) does not reflect reality and is based on very simple calculations. Its only purpose is to demonstrate how numbers might develop under different artificial conditions. Predicting the accurate numbers for cases and deaths is impossible because they depend on too many variables and unknown factors.
  • ๐ŸŒก๏ธ Live Cases are projected cases as well. They do not show numbers of real confirmed cases. The projection is based on latest total cases reported and latest daily increase of cases. Note that these projections can be very inaccurate. Especially if new daily cases are volatile. Live case counters are meant to give you a better understanding of how quickly (or slowly) numbers are increasing in real time.

๐ŸŒก๏ธ COVID-19

What is it?
COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) is a disease which is caused by SARS-CoV-2 (Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2). SARS-CoV-2 caused a pandemic in 2020. Please refer to the World Health Organization COVID-19 info page for further details.
